Hello everyone,
This past Monday your child was able to participate in our school's most meaningful Remembrance Day liturgy organized by the grade 4 students. Our class dug a little deeper. We read books about Remembrance Day to gather information and we looked at the popular poem In Flanders Fields to name a few. We did our best to connect all these past events to our lives now. I think many students understood that Remembrance Day is not just one day and is forgotten but, instead, a valuable lesson learned to keep the peace in our school, in our communities and in our world. We had lengthy discussions about what a peace keeper is and why Canadians leave their families to go overseas to help other countries to try to find peace.
The students had an opportunity to write to our members of the Canadian Armed Forces to thank them for their service and to demonstrate how each student can be a peace keeper at school and in their homes. The main message was to embrace love and understanding instead of solving problems with hurt and violence.

As part of our Religion and Family Life unit, each child presented a "trophy" to another student in front of the class to acknowledge each of our God given talents and how we recognize and celebrate them with one another.

We have come to the end of our Data Management unit. Here, we looked at some EQAO questions to challenge our thinking. The students needed to use the skills and concepts they practised in this unit and apply it to a multi step question. We solved this question together as a class. See if your child can explain to you how they would have answered the question.

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER......
  • An extra set of mitts and socks tucked into your child's school bag is always a good idea for these winter months ahead.
  • Your child's library books are always due back to school by Wednesday.
  • Pizza/Subway day is always Tuesday unless it's a snow day. Then, it will be the next day-Wednesday.
  • Monday is a big agenda day. Please see and sign your child's spelling book, notice the new word wall words and see what homework has gone home.
  • Please check your child's agenda daily and initial.
Have a great week. I know we will!
