Hello Everyone,
An interesting week to say the least. Nonetheless, lots of learning was had.
In Math, we completed our anchor charts to help us understand how solids are formed by exploring a solid's  FACES, EDGES and VERTICES.

These anchor charts, as well as last week's homework, will help your child with this week's homework.
Our class was able to construct solids, look at NETS and determine real life examples of 3D solids in our environment.

Media Literacy is still our focus in Language. Our class is learning how advertisers use techniques to attract a specific audience so that they are ready to package a product and use the same techniques to attract a specific audience. Stay tuned!
We have moved on to another unit of Science called Forces. Ask your child what is a force and explain the 4 forces we've explored so far.
Our Arts strand continues to be Music. Thanks to Mrs. G's activity, our class was able to practice simple note patterns with a partner.

As you can see, many still needed the anchor chart to remind them the value of each note or rest. Some students were innovative enough to make their own anchor chart to refer to.

As you know our class pushed over another 100 marbles. I was able to have 2 of the class' choices met by doing and Open Gym block but by also offering board games up on the stage. Fun times were had by all.

A reminder of the St. Rita Annual Dance-a-thon happening this coming Friday. Envelopes were sent home last week in your child's agenda with an information sheet attached.

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER.....
  • Test on the 5 X tables this coming Friday.
  • I continue to ask that you please check your child's agenda daily and their homework book weekly.
  • Dance-a-thon this coming Friday.
Have a great week. I know we will.

Hello Everyone,
3D solids was the order of business in our math lessons this past week. Our original learning goal was to classify and sort pyramids and prisms. Our first crack at it made our class realize we need to take a tiny step backward in order to take a leap forward.
We needed to go back to connect with how these pyramids and prisms get their names. Many understood the differences between the 2 3D solids but many were also calling the solid a "thingy" or a "dew hickey" instead of by its proper name so.....
We reviewed the most common 2D shapes which makes up the proper name of a prism or a pyramid. Ask you child what is the name of a 5,6,7,8,9 and even 10 sided polygon.

We will complete these anchor charts next week to determine the mathematical names of these solids. Then, we are going to investigate how many faces, edges and vertices each figure has. Stay tuned!

In Language, our learning goal is to recognize and understand different media techniques advertisers use to sell their product to a specific target audience.

Ask your child to spot these techniques we explored the next time you see commercials on TV, go on any digital media or go to a store.

In Science, we started a new unit on Forces and for The Arts, our focus is still music. Below, our class is realizing that music is the combination of organized sound made up of NOTES and deliberate spaces of silence which we read as RESTS.

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER......
There will be an assessment of the 4 X Table this coming Thursday.
Please look in your child's homework duotang weekly for marked assessments that need to seen and signed by a parent.
There is no school this Tuesday January 21st. Please listen to your School Messenger, any local news media or the St. Rita School website for updates regarding this issue. Our school's pizza lunch will be served on Wednesday.
This week's homework is due this coming Thursday January 23rd because Friday January 24th is a PD DAY. There is no school on Friday.

Have a great week!

Hello everyone and Happy New Year to you all!,
Our first week back at school was a busy one. Our class spent a lot of time diving into new learning opportunities as well as reviewing our classroom expectations and routines. They have not changed but some needed reminders of what a classroom community looks likes, sounds like and feels like.

We started the week exploring what the feast day of the Epiphany is and we wrote New Year's resolutions on our stars.

In Math, the class extended their thinking on what AREA is by doing various activities. Ask your child to explain these activities to you in more detail as a way of connecting to your child's learning.

We made some very thoughtful conclusions about AREA
Here is a MATH UP link to our big ideas for AREA.

In Language, the class did a recount of their favourite days of the Christmas Break and we did a question answer gallery walk. We also finished up our unit on PROCEDURAL WRITING. Starting next week we will unpack our learning goals for MEDIA LITERACY and QUESTION ANSWER RELATIONSHIPS.

We are busily preparing for the New Year's Mass that our class is responsible for. You are cordially invited to be a part of the Mass on Wednesday January 15th, 2020 at 1:30pm in the gym.

A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER.........
  • Please check your child's homework book weekly. There are assessments in the book from your child that need to be reviewed and signed by a parent.
  • As always, the homework books are given out on Monday and are due back to school on Friday.
  • The new pizza and Subway order will be sent out via School Messenger soon.  The St. Rita school website is also another way to find up to date information on most things as well.
  • Our Library time continues to be on Wednesday. It is important that library books are brought in before or on that date in order to take out more books.
Have a great week. I know we will.
